LOCALITY

ORCIATICO

The village of Orciatico is a lovely, intimate idyll.  There is a church, two shops, restaurant, cafe/bar, cash machine and lots of those essential nooks-and-crannies to explore.

The church has been recently restored and the bell is in full working order – chiming on the hour and half hour.

There are excellent views available from just walking round the village, or by taking a walk up the nearby forest track where you can see the remains of an old windmill. Orciatico is around three miles from Lajatico, which in the Spring or Autumn would be perfect walking distance.

VOLTERRA

The nearest main town is Volterra.  Originally an Etruscan then Roman fortification, it is an enchanting place to visit and still retains much of the original architecture including old walls and a Roman amphitheater.

Volterra has an excellent selection of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops.  Although, be warned, as after spending a few days in-and-around Orciatico and Volterra you’ll fall in love with the area and want to move there!
